Dr. Akira Olsen is a licensed clinical psychologist with extensive professional experience across diverse settings. She is the Founder and CEO of WARM Education, Training & Consulting, a company dedicated to providing programs that educate youth, families, survivors, clinicians, coaches, and businesses on the impacts of trauma and ADHD on health, wellness, and functioning.
Dr. Olsen has worked with a broad spectrum of clients, including youth and adults in the business, art, and entertainment industries. Her experience spans community mental health clinics, schools, women’s and family community centers, and a university counseling center. This diverse background has equipped her with a deep and nuanced understanding of the unique needs of her clients.
She is proficient in treating conditions such as anxiety, ADHD, trauma/PTSD, depression, motivational issues, life transitions, and family-related challenges. Initially trained in psychodynamic therapy, Dr. Olsen’s expertise has expanded to include Family Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Trauma informed CBT, Neuropsychological Assessment, Humanistic/Existential Therapy, Process-Oriented Psychotherapy, Somatic Psychotherapy, Trauma-Informed CBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Positive Psychology, Brief Psychodynamic Therapy, and Emotion/Executive Coaching. She is certified in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (Levels I & II), Executive Coaching, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.
Dr. Olsen’s approach to therapy integrates mindfulness and holistic practices. Growing up in Tokyo, she engaged in art and Japanese fencing, which fostered her appreciation for discipline and creativity. During her Master’s program, she explored various therapeutic modalities, including Jungian, existential, humanistic, mindfulness, transpersonal approaches, as well as Western and Eastern Buddhist meditation practices. This background enables her to incorporate mindfulness seamlessly into her therapeutic work.
In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Olsen has served as a clinical supervisor and teaching faculty at Palo Alto University and the Stanford Consortium (PGSP). She has also been the Diversity Chair for the San Mateo County Psychological Association and is a member of both the American Psychological Association and the Asian American Psychological Association.
Dr. Olsen’s work in mental health education extends to the U.S., Japan, and globally. She manages a YouTube channel focused on trauma, PTSD, ADHD, mental health, and issues affecting women, youth, and family health. Her work has been featured on iHeartRadio.
Dr. Olsen is committed to providing client-centered, evidence-based, culturally competent, and developmentally appropriate services tailored to each client’s unique needs. She is bilingual, fluent in both English and Japanese.
